The U.S. Census Bureau has announced the start of the 2026 Census Test, which will take place in Huntsville, Alabama and Spartanburg, South Carolina. The test is designed to assess certain operational aspects ahead of the next national census in 2030.
According to the Census Bureau, the focus of this test includes evaluating how the U.S. Postal Service can be used for tasks that are usually carried out by Census Bureau field workers. The test will also involve some limited in-field enumeration activities.
In a statement, the agency said: “The Census Bureau remains committed to conducting the most accurate count in history for the 2030 Census and looks forward to the continued partnership with local communities.”
The results from these tests are expected to inform planning and improvements for future census operations.
