The U.S. Census Bureau has released updated Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (TIGER)/Line files for 2025, available in Shapefile, Geodatabase, and GeoPackage formats. These geospatial data products allow users to create custom maps using various data sources.
This year’s update introduces new Current Suffixed Blocks Geodatabases and GeoPackages. These contain both 2020 and current block information, with suffixes marking blocks that have been split since 2020. Users can link these data sets to the Census Bureau’s current address count listing files.
The TIGER/Line files provide geographic boundary information such as legal, administrative, and statistical boundaries, along with roads and hydrography features. The files are designed to be linked with demographic data that will be released in the future on data.census.gov, enabling users to visualize census tabular data on maps.
Although TIGER/Line files do not include demographic statistics themselves, they contain geographic entity codes (GEOIDs) which facilitate linking with the Census Bureau’s demographic datasets. The agency recommends consulting its TIGER Data Products Guide page for assistance in selecting the appropriate product.
There is no separate news release associated with this product; only a tip sheet was issued.
