Duke Energy and the Duke Energy Foundation have announced a $100,000 donation to the One SC Fund, which was recently activated by Governor Henry McMaster to support food banks throughout South Carolina. The contribution is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to address hunger in the state as colder weather and the holiday season approach.
In addition to this donation, Duke Energy will provide another $500,000 in November to more than 60 feeding programs across South Carolina. This comes amid funding uncertainties for many assistance programs that serve families facing food insecurity during winter months.
Governor Henry McMaster commented on the initiative: “Duke Energy’s contribution to the One SC Fund highlights the very best of South Carolina. At a time when many families are facing uncertainty, Team South Carolina is coming together to support our food banks and put food on the table. I’m grateful for their generosity and hope it will encourage others to join our effort to help families in need.”
Tim Pearson, president of Duke Energy in South Carolina, said: “These organizations are fighting the good fight every day in communities across our state, but they cannot do it alone. Duke Energy is happy to stand with the governor, and we encourage other corporate entities, organizations and citizens across the state to help support the fight against hunger.”
The company’s annual campaign supporting anti-hunger organizations will begin next week. Now in its fifth year, this initiative has provided over $2.6 million since 2021 through grants distributed before Thanksgiving and additional surprise grants on Giving Tuesday.
This campaign supports various community partners such as Harvest Hope Food Bank, Mill Village Farms, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, FoodShare South Carolina and AIM. Employees from Duke Energy will also volunteer with these organizations throughout November.
Duke Energy also notes that customers struggling with food insecurity may face difficult choices about household expenses like electricity bills. Information about assistance programs can be found at duke-energy.com/SeasonalSavings.
The Duke Energy Foundation provides more than $30 million annually for philanthropic causes in areas where its customers live and work. The foundation is funded by shareholders of Duke Energy.
Duke Energy serves millions of electric and natural gas customers across several states including North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida. The company continues investing in grid upgrades and cleaner energy sources as part of its broader transition toward sustainable energy solutions.
