The Florida Department of Health has introduced the Florida Health Care Innovation Loan Program, an initiative aimed at advancing innovation in the state’s health care system. The program, supported by an annual $50 million revolving loan fund, seeks to finance new and innovative ideas to improve health care delivery and quality throughout Florida.
The Health Care Innovation Council oversees the program. Chaired by Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins, the council includes members with expertise in health care, technology, finance, and patient advocacy.
“The launch of the Health Care Innovation Revolving Loan program represents yet another significant step in Florida’s efforts to foster a culture of innovation within Florida’s health care community,” said Lt. Governor Jay Collins. “As the Council Chair and newest member, I am honored to work with the Council to support health care innovation implementing solutions that address the evolving needs of our state’s health care system.”
“This loan program reflects Florida’s commitment to patient-centered innovation and medical choice,” said State Surgeon General Dr. Joseph A. Ladapo. “We are investing in the lives of Floridians by supporting solutions that improve care delivery and outcomes.”
The council aims to encourage new technologies, workforce development pathways, and service models designed to make health care more efficient in Florida. Objectives include easing pressure on the health care workforce, expanding access for patients, improving outcomes, reducing unnecessary emergency department visits, and lowering costs without compromising quality.
A dedicated website for the initiative—Innovation.flhealth.gov—has been launched as a resource for providers, entrepreneurs, technology developers, and others interested in participating. In addition, a loan application portal (healthcareinnovationloan.floridahealth.gov/LAP) is now available for eligible organizations seeking funding for their projects.
Through this portal, applicants can submit applications securely online; review detailed information about eligibility criteria; track application status; and access additional resources or support during the process.
Entities eligible for loans include those licensed or certified by the Agency for Health Care Administration such as hospitals, residential treatment facilities, ambulatory surgery centers, nursing homes, assisted living facilities—and educational or clinical training organizations partnered with these facilities.
The Department of Health is accredited nationally by the Public Health Accreditation Board and works across state and local levels to promote public health in Florida.
More information about funding opportunities under section 381.4015 of Florida Statutes can be found at innovation.flhealth.gov or by contacting healthinnovation@flhealth.gov.
