The Florida Medical Association (FMA) is expanding its support for women physicians through a series of educational initiatives and events. The FMA’s Women in Medicine Committee, created by the Board of Governors, has developed several webinars aimed at addressing challenges faced by women in the medical profession.
“I’m so appreciative that the FMA Board of Governors (BOG) created a Women in Medicine Committee to support the needs of our women physician members,” said Rebekah Bernard, MD, an FMA BOG member who serves as committee chair. “Studies show that women physicians have a higher rate of burnout than our male colleagues, and of even greater concern, a 24-percent greater chance of suicide than the general population.”
Dr. Bernard emphasized that the FMA is committed to helping women physicians practice medicine through targeted programming.
Among upcoming events is “From Barely Surviving to Thriving,” an FMA CME webinar scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 26 at noon ET. This webinar is one example of the committee’s efforts to provide resources and education tailored to women in medicine.
On Friday, April 4, the University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville will host the Women in Medicine & Science Conference at the Mariott Jacksonville. Registration details will be available in future editions of FMA News.
Additionally, on Saturday, May 3, the 2025 South Florida Women Physicians Retreat will take place at Hyatt House in Naples. The event is organized by multiple regional medical societies and will feature presentations, group discussions, lunch, and an evening reception.
