Nominations are now open for physicians interested in serving on the Florida Medical Association’s (FMA) reference committees. County and specialty medical societies can submit nominations until 5 p.m. ET on Friday, May 9.

Each reference committee consists of at least five voting members from the FMA House of Delegates (HOD). Those currently holding positions as FMA officers or members of the Board of Governors (BOG) are not eligible to serve. The Speaker and Vice Speaker of the FMA select committee members, who are tasked with conducting open hearings on proposed resolutions before they reach the full HOD during the Annual Meeting.

Following public input on each resolution, reference committee members meet privately to discuss and decide their recommendations. These decisions are then presented in a report to the HOD. If a resolution is approved by both the House and adopted by the BOG, it becomes official FMA policy.

Delegates will be able to provide online testimony about any properly filed resolution starting Monday, June 23, at 9 a.m. ET until Thursday, July 3, at 9 p.m. ET. When submitting testimony, delegates must state whether they support or oppose each resolution.

The reference committees will hold executive sessions beginning Monday, July 7, to prepare their reports. Reports will be available online prior to the start of the Annual Meeting on Friday, July 25. In-person hearings for further debate on these recommendations will take place Saturday, July 26.
