Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay announced on Apr. 2 that it is celebrating its 40th anniversary, marking four decades as a waterfront hotel in the city. Since opening in 1986, the hotel has welcomed over seven million guests and hosted more than six thousand social events.

The milestone highlights the hotel’s long-standing presence in Tampa’s hospitality scene and its role as a gathering place for both travelers and local residents. Many guests now return with their third generation, reflecting the hotel’s enduring impact on families and traditions.

Jessica Cain, General Manager of Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay, said, “For 40 years, Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay has been deeply rooted in this community, guided by our purpose of caring for people so they can be their best. From welcoming generations of travelers to celebrating milestones with our neighbors, this hotel has always been more than a place to stay. We’re especially proud that Oystercatchers, an original part of the hotel since opening day, remains a beloved local favorite. As we celebrate this anniversary, we’re energized by what’s ahead and excited to build on this legacy for years to come.”

Several staff members have also marked decades at the property. Jane Booker has worked at the hotel since its first day of operation while Steve Heald joined within weeks of launch. “For nearly 40 years, I’ve watched this hotel become an integral part of Tampa Bay,” said Heald. “Every partnership we’ve made stems from that early commitment to be present in this place, not just operate in it. It’s those deep roots in this community that define who we are.”

The hotel’s involvement extends beyond hospitality through partnerships with organizations such as Tampa Bay Watch and Habitat for Humanity. At Oystercatchers restaurant—open since day one—the Shells for Shorelines program recycles oyster shells into living reefs supporting water quality and wildlife habitats.

Looking ahead to December’s official anniversary date, Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay plans experiences honoring its legacy along with property updates including enhancements to guest amenities.
