Miami-Dade County bought a property in Wynwood from developer Moishe Mana for $6.5 million, according to records and real estate database Vizzda on Mar. 27. The purchase will allow the county to develop a mixed-use project that includes affordable housing, a Puerto Rican community center, and an office for County Commissioner Keon Hardemon.
The transaction is part of an agreement requiring Mana to give the county the sales proceeds to resolve a previous dispute over a missed payment tied to an earlier land swap deal. This dispute arose after Mana failed to meet development deadlines related to that arrangement.
The acquired parcel at 2900 Northwest Fifth Avenue covers about 0.3 acres and is currently vacant. It represents only a small portion of Mana’s extensive Wynwood holdings, which total around 30 contiguous acres where he has previously proposed creating an arts and tech hub. Despite these plans, progress remains limited with the project still in its early design phase.
Commission meeting minutes show that Commissioner Hardemon requested the inclusion of the community center component in order to serve residents affected by rising rents and redevelopment pressures in nearby Allapattah and Wynwood Norte neighborhoods.
There is no announced timeline yet for construction of the new facility, but planning documents indicate Miami-Dade intends to partner with a private builder through a request for proposals expected later this year.
