Santa Fe College has appointed Kari Hamende as its new Director of Community Relations, according to an announcement from John Hooker, Vice President for Governmental and Community Relations.
Hamende brings over ten years of experience in nonprofit leadership, higher education, and healthcare fundraising. She previously worked as Interim Executive Director and Charitable Gifts Officer at the Hospice of Marion County Foundation. During her tenure there, she launched a new 501(c)(3) organization, led a $1.7 million capital campaign, and established partnerships with community leaders. Her background also includes positions at Loyola University Chicago, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Dominican University, and the School Sisters of St. Francis. In these roles, she gained expertise in strategic planning, board relations, event management, and stakeholder engagement.
“I am very happy to be here to help deepen relationships in our larger Alachua and Bradford communities across government, business, and nonprofit partners,” Hamende said. “After being at our SF educational centers and in municipal meetings during my first week on the job, it is clear that community engagement is a proud hallmark of the Santa Fe culture.”
In her new position at Santa Fe College, Hamende will lead community relations efforts for the institution. She will act as a key representative for the college by building relationships with local businesses, community leaders, government agencies, civic groups, and educational organizations. Additionally, she will oversee initiatives aimed at increasing the college’s visibility and ensuring that Santa Fe College remains attentive to the needs within its service district.
