Santa Fe College’s Fine Arts and Entertainment Technology program will present its first student-led concert of the spring semester on Friday, Feb. 13. The event, called the Valentine’s Swing Dance, will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Jackson Sasser Fine Arts Hall on the Northwest campus in Gainesville.

The concert will feature two groups from Santa Fe College’s music program: the Jazz Ensemble and the Jazz Combo. Both groups are directed by Associate Professor of Music David L. Smith. They will perform live swing jazz music from the 1920s and 1930s.

Attendees can expect a semi-formal evening with light appetizers and complimentary swing dance instruction. Admission is $10 per person, and tickets can be purchased through Showpass.

The musical program includes 11 selections such as “Take the ‘A’ Train,” popularized by Duke Ellington; “Li’l Darlin’” by Count Basie Orchestra; and “Sing Sing Sing,” written by Louis Prima and known as a signature number for Benny Goodman.

A special guest vocalist will join the bands during their performance.
