The U.S. Census Bureau released new Business Formation Statistics for March 2026, according to an April 8 announcement. The statistics provide monthly information on new business applications and formations in the United States and Puerto Rico.
The release of these statistics is important because it offers timely data that can help analysts, policymakers, and the public understand trends in business creation across the country.
According to the Census Bureau, the Business Formation Statistics are developed through research collaboration with economists from several institutions including the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, the University of Maryland, and the University of Notre Dame.
The full dataset includes twelve series—four related to applications and eight related to formations—and is updated each month with figures for national, regional, and state levels. Four monthly business application series are also published specifically for Puerto Rico as part of this standard product. The data set provides both seasonally adjusted and unadjusted figures.
There was no news release associated with this announcement; only a tip sheet was provided by the Census Bureau.
