The Winpisinger Center has announced the start of its Online Steward Training program, set to begin on October 1. This initiative is designed for new shop stewards who want to improve their effectiveness but are unable to attend in-person sessions at the Center.

“This initiative is another step forward in expanding our members’ access to quality union education, no matter where they live or work,” said Winpisinger Center Director Mary McHugh.

The training is available to all members in good standing who serve as stewards. The program will run over three consecutive weeks, with each session lasting two hours and covering two topics. To accommodate participants’ schedules, sessions are offered three times a week.

The first week will address the role of the steward and steward rights and responsibilities, with sessions scheduled for Wednesday, October 1 at 10:00 a.m. EDT; Thursday, October 2 at 8:00 p.m. EDT; and Saturday, October 4 at 11:00 a.m. EDT.

Week two will focus on grievances and investigations, with sessions on Wednesday, October 8 at 10:00 a.m. EDT; Thursday, October 9 at 8:00 p.m. EDT; and Saturday, October 11 at 11:00 a.m. EDT.

The third week will cover just cause and discipline cases as well as contract cases and past practice. These sessions are planned for Wednesday, October 15 at 10:00 a.m. EDT; Thursday, October 16 at 8:00 p.m. EDT; and Saturday, October 18 at 11:00 a.m. EDT.
